Teng Tools On The Move In “The Tron” (Hamilton)
Holland Collision Repair Harnesses The Teng Tools System
It may be one of the newest workshops in the country, at just one month old, however, Cameron Holland from Holland Collision Centre says that, thanks to the Teng Tools Racking System, the latest addition to the company’s existing workshop should stay the tidiest, too.
Intended specifically to handle structural work, Cameron decided to do something different this time. Along with his brother, Clayton, the pair put a lot of effort into planning for workshop efficiency. Having seen a lot of workshops around the country, Cameron tells us that the biggest causes of downtime are having to move vehicles around and “looking for stuff”.
“Panelbeaters traditionally supply their own tools and you get a big mix and match. And they take tools home and don’t bring them back, so they are not there when you need them. If we have everything on hand, it’s going to speed things up,” says Cameron.
He took the decision to invest in supplying all the tools for the workshop, which would sit in a properly organized tool centre. They also spent time driving vehicles in and out and moving them around to make sure the workstations and hoists would be sited for the best workflow. The difference, the lack of clutter in the workshop, is immediately obvious. All of their gear — hand tools, power tools, safety gear and consumables — is located in a new and impressive Teng Tools racking and storage system. All individual tools sit in moulded trays so anyone can see at a glance if a tool is missing. Trays are also labelled so no time is wasted opening the wrong doors or drawers, and shelves can be rearranged if the staff find a different layout is more efficient.
Cameron says that Clayton got the concept from the Teng Tools supplier, ISL, who explained Emirates Team New Zealand’s similar set-up.
Using a total of 17.5 metres of the Teng Tools Racking System, including fully lockable storage cabinets for use on their own or as part of the Teng Tools modular racking system, the set-up includes modular wall-mounted, modular floor standing, and modular floor standing full-height cabinets, along with four-drawer modular units.
